Complex Assessments

Independent Medical Examination

Where information regarding a workplace injury or illness is inadequate, unavailable, inconsistent or undetermined, an Independent Medical Assessment (IME) may be required.

An Independent Medical Examination  is an independent  third-party medical assessment of a worker’s injury or illness. It provides a report identifying the  injury or illness and it’s cause, the level to which it is work-related, the employee’s  ability to maintain employment and ongoing medical treatment based on their individual needs.

Suitable Duties Assessment

Where an employee has been injured as a result of a workplace incident, a Suitable Duties Assessment will assess and determine what duties the employee may be capable of performing safely whilst still maintaining their employment. It will report on the employee’s health and may be used to identify potential side effects such as mental health impact or other physical effects, especially where an employee requires a lengthy absence from their normal work.

Fitness For Duty Assessment

Where an employee has been injured, irrespective of the injury being sustained at work or not, a Fitness for Duty Assessment will report on the employee’s ability to safely perform tasks at the workplace and what risk minimisation needs to be implemented. A Fitness for Duties Assessment is often used where an employee has suffered or is suffering from mental stress or other types of psychological illness.

Medico-Legal Assessment

A Medico Legal Assessment (MLA)provides a report on an employee’s ability to perform tasks under their normal role in the workplace after they have suffered an injury.

An MLA will provide evidence based information regarding the employee’s injury, their recovery status and whether they are fit to return to normal duties. It may also be used as a report basis for potential compensation claims.

Permanent Impairment Assessment

This Assessment determines the level of permanent physical injury or ability to perform actions due to a workplace injury or illness. The Assessment is often used in determining financial payments associated with a loss and is compliant with state-based legislation and conform to set provisions
